Black Cat Watching the Magpie Poster

While painting her last children’s book, “Bettina Creates a Garden,” Jean incorporated this black cat in many of the illustrations, and so was then inspired for her iconic feline to have its own painting, watching a magpie – another of Jean’s classic designs. Jean also loved the idea of a graphic visual of the sun as a circle in the middle balanced out with the half circle style mound below, combining vivid colours such as the blue grass and leaves in all shades of pinks and reds. It was autumn when Jean painted this and her Umbrian garden’s colour palate also added to her inspiration. Although this painting wasn’t originally going to be in the children’s book, it was eventually worked into the story so as to include Jean’s distinctive design element, vibrant colours and of course, the wonderful cat!
