SKEVOULLA GORDON
Skevoulla is half Greek and half Dutch and currently based in the UK near Windsor. There she lives together with her family in a funny little cottage where she spends most of her days drawing in her shed at the bottom of the garden.
Skevoulla has always felt a deep connection with nature. Especially plants and flowers. “They bring me so much joy and these are a recurring theme”.
She also have a deep love for still-life in art, for cosy vignettes and interiors. She loves to bring the outside in using natural elements combined with beautiful objects and books to create a joyful and lovely scene. Skevoulla collect vintage and antique objects, especially cups, vases and little trinket boxes and have a deep joy in incorporating these in her still life arrangements. “I’m a bit of a magpie! Literature and old books are also treasured objects and I also like to include these in my drawings. I feel the memory of a book or a story can be a beautiful way of connecting with people”.
Skevoulla is inspired daily by nature, by flowers and plants and walks by the river near her house. Regarding artists, the list is endless and ever evolving! Special favourites include Matisse, Van Gogh, Monet, Vanessa Bell, Winifred Nicholson and Kiki Smith and she also like looking through books about Medieval illuminations. The warm jumble of antique and vintage shops and markets, pattern on pattern and old book shops influence her.
